The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of J.D.S.G. College, Bokakhat organised an academic talk titled “Teacher Education in Transition: A New Paradigm under NEP 2020” on 16 December 2025 at 11:30 AM in the Auditorium of the college. Dr. Jayanta Gogoi, Principal, in the welcome address, highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for teachers and appreciated IQAC’s initiative in organising policy-oriented academic programmes. He also emphasised the role of higher education institutions in aligning their academic practices with national educational priorities.

The programme was graced by Professor Dibyajyoti Mahanta, Chairperson, Eastern Regional Committee, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi, as the Resource Person. The talk focused on the transformative vision of the National Education Policy 2020, with special emphasis on reforms in teacher education. Professor Mahanta elaborated on the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), a four-year multidisciplinary undergraduate programme introduced under NEP 2020 to prepare professionally competent, ethically grounded, and pedagogically skilled teachers. He highlighted how ITEP integrates subject knowledge, pedagogy, field engagement, and professional values, and discussed the role of NCTE in ensuring quality and standardisation in teacher education institutions.

The session also addressed key issues such as competency-based teacher preparation, digital pedagogies, continuous professional development, and institutional readiness in the evolving educational landscape. An interactive session followed, during which faculty members and students actively engaged with the resource person.

The programme was informative, enriching, and thought-provoking, contributing significantly to policy awareness and professional development.
