Women cell

Vision of the Women’s Cell:

To nurture a campus community at JDSG College where every woman — student, faculty, or staff — lives, learns, and leads with dignity, freedom, and equality; where gender is never a barrier to knowledge, opportunity, or justice; and where the institution stands as an unwavering guarantor of safety, respect, and empowerment for all. Upholding the inherent worth and respect of every woman in the college community without exception. Ensuring equal access to academic, co-curricular, and leadership opportunities for all women. Providing a secure, harassment-free environment where women can pursue education without fear. Building the capacity and confidence of women to achieve their full potential as scholars, citizens, and leaders.

4. Mission
Guided by its vision, the Women’s Cell of JDSG College is committed to:
• Creating and sustaining an institutional culture of gender sensitivity, mutual respect, and zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment.
• Providing accessible, confidential, and compassionate support to women students and staff who face gender-based challenges within or related to the campus.
• Conducting regular awareness programmes, workshops, and campaigns that equip the college community with knowledge of gender rights, legal protections, and available redressal mechanisms.
• Collaborating with the ICC to ensure swift, fair, and trauma-informed handling of complaints under the POSH Act, 2013.
• Celebrating the academic, cultural, and leadership achievements of women in the institution through events, recognitions, and platforms.
• Engaging with the broader Bokakhat community — through outreach drives, school visits, and partnerships with Self-Help Groups — to extend the reach of gender equity beyond the campus.
• Advising the college administration on policy measures that further strengthen the safety, welfare, and advancement of women in the institution. Scope and Constituency
The Women’s Cell serves all women members of the JDSG College community, including:
• Undergraduate and postgraduate women students enrolled in all departments and programmes.
• Women faculty members across all academic departments.
• Women non-teaching staff, including administrative, technical, and support personnel.
The Cell also undertakes outreach activities for the benefit of women in the surrounding areas of Bokakhat and Golaghat district, reflecting its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.

Over two decades since its founding in 2004, the Women’s Cell of JDSG College has evolved from a statutory requirement into a vibrant, student-centred institution that is woven into the daily life of the college. From its earliest days under the founding leadership of Dr. Rubi Borah and Mrs. Abanti Sarmah to the present, the Cell has remained true to its founding promise: that no woman at JDSG College shall face discrimination, harassment, or inequality without recourse, solidarity, and justice.
The Cell continues to be guided by the belief that the education and empowerment of women is not merely an institutional responsibility — it is the most powerful investment a community can make in its own future. As JDSG College moves forward, the Women’s Cell stands as its steadfast partner in building a campus that is not only academically excellent but genuinely, equally, and proudly women-forward.
