The Department of Philosophy is one of the latest Departments and was started in January, 2019 by J D S G College as a full fledged Department with both Higher Secondary and Degree classes. The emergence of this Department is significant in fulfilling the demand of the students from different areas to pursue college education in Philosophy. That is why; it is extending its activities to provide basic philosophical knowledge to make students well acquainted with various fields of philosophy like Logic (Indian and Western), Ethics (Indian and Western), Metaphysics (Indian and Western), Epistemology (Indian and Western), Philosophy of Religion, Social and Political Philosophy, Contemporary and Modern Philosophy (Indian and Western), Psychology, Feminism etc.

To encourage the students to understand the universal and interdisciplinary nature of Philosophy, the Department organizes ICT presentations time to time, so that, study of philosophy feels entertaining also.

Though the Department of Philosophy started with CBCS mode but it was converted to FYUGP mode in 2024 with a number of new courses like Minor, Generic Elective, Skill Enhancement Course and Add-On Course along with revamped syllabi.
