October 10, 2026RED RIBBON CLUB OBSERVES WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY IN ASSOCIATION WITH IQAC AT JDSG COLLEGE ON 10 OCTOBER 2026
The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of JDSG College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), observed World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2026 to promote mental health awareness, address anxiety-related issues, and encourage open conversations about emotional well-being among students.
The programme began with an address by Mr Prasanta Saikia, Vice-Principal of the College, who highlighted key aspects of mental health and emphasised the importance of awareness and a supportive environment for individuals facing mental health challenges.
In his introductory remarks, Mr. Kabir Barhoi, Joint Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club, highlighted this year’s World Mental Health Day theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.”
He underscored the importance of listening to individuals with lived experiences of mental health challenges and creating spaces where people can share their experiences without fear of judgement or stigma.
Dr Monalisa Borgohain, IQAC Coordinator, delivered an informative talk on mental health, highlighting the importance of regular exercise, positive thinking, and healthy lifestyle practices in maintaining emotional and psychological well-being. Dr Santisaya Boruah, focused on the role of yoga in promoting mental health, emphasising its significance in managing stress and maintaining a healthy balance between mind and body.
The programme also featured the screening of short films dealing with mental health and anxiety-related issues. Interviews featuring youth icons: Deepika Padukone and Virat Kohli, in which they spoke about their experiences and perspectives on mental health, were screened to encourage students to acknowledge emotional struggles and engage in open conversations about mental well-being.
Following the screening, Mr. Akash Jyoti Sarmah, Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club, moderated an interactive discussion session. Students actively participated and shared their experiences and reflections, creating a supportive platform for dialogue on mental health challenges and the importance of seeking help when needed.
The session was anchored by Kabir Barhoi, Joint Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club. The vote of thanks was delivered by Akash Jyoti Sarmah, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, faculty members, students, and all those associated with the programme.
The event witnessed the participation of 50 attendees. Faculty members Dr Tulumoni Gogoi of the Department of Assamese, Ms Bhasita Kakoti, Department of Education and Ms Nistha Sarma of the Department of English also attended the programme.
The observation concluded with a renewed emphasis on promoting mental health awareness, encouraging students to share their experiences, and fostering an empathetic and supportive campus community where mental well-being receives due importance.
