Film-Screening by Gender Champions Club
March 9, 2026JDSG College, Bokakhat observed the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, 2026. The event was organised by Women’s Cell & ACTA Teachers’ Unit, JDSG College.The event started with a lamp-lighting ceremony. Mrs. Nibha Noni Baruah, Academic In-charge and President, Teachers’ Unit, JDSG College lit the lamp and inaugurated the event. This was followed by a song by Shyamali Das, a student of the college. Mrs. Monjumoni Neog, the President of the Women’s Cell spoke on the significance of the day.The Vice-Principal of the college, Mr. Prasanta Saikia delivered the opening address. He emphasized the need to have a balanced society where no one is denied any opportunity on the basis of gender. Mrs. Nibha Noni Baruah, in her speech shed light on how women throughout the ages have displayed strength and resilience. Dr. Monalisa Borgohain, Co-ordinator, IQAC and Secretary, Teachers’ Unit delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the importance of knowing one’s rights. She encouraged the students to be empathetic and treat everyone equally. Mr. Atul Hazarika, retired teacher, Bokakhat Higher Secondary School graced the occasion and delivered a very insightful speech. He reflected on the history of women’s rights movement and also focused on the present condition. Dr. Bidyut Jyoti Kalita, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce delivered the keynote address. His speech focused on the different roles women perform throughout their lives.
Several events were organised to celebrate the day. An AI video making competition was held in collaboration with IIC, JDSG College. The innovative and creative entries were screened today by Mr. Kabir Barhoi, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics. A poster making and slogan writing competition was also held. The Women’s Cell collaborated with the Gender Champions Club of the college for a short film screening program. Three award winning short films, based on women issues – Juice, Uruli and Weeping Women were screened for the audience that consisted of both the students and teachers. The day-long event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Monsumi Sarma, Secretary, Women’s Cell.
