An extension programme was carried out by the students of the department of English, J.D.S.G.
College, Bokakhat, at Mungilal Krishna Devi Balika Vidyalay&: Namdoyang Nimna Buniadi
Vidyalaya, Bokakhat on 28th & 29th October, 2022 respectively. Both these govt. aided
schools are located in the vicinity of the College. The said extension programme was conducted
as part of the initiative PRAGYA undertaken by the English Association of the department.
As part of the extension programme, all the students of first, third & fifth semester conducted
different curicular and co-curricular activities in micro groups like: elassroom teaching, poetry
recitation, art, dance and play, among the students of class III, IV and V respectively of both
the schools. The objective(s) behind this initiative was to extend the involvement of the
department beyond the regular teaching commitments. It also aims to sensitize the students of the
department about the existing issues plaguing primary level education system in our country. As
a higher education institution, the college and the department always strive to move out of the
conventional notions of classroom-teaching and integrate itself with the sociocultural ethos of the society at large. The initiative not only assisted them in
gaining first-hand experience of teaching but also helped them in nourishing their
organic talents.
